Beyond Numbers: The Immeasurable Benefit of Entrepreneurship

B

Sometimes the most ordinary things can be made extraordinary. Simply by doing them with the right people.

Remember the early days of a relationship when just going shopping with someone you’re falling in love with has you tingling with excitement as you navigate the bakery aisle?

When the converse is true — people that make every meeting/Zoom call/phone call/email a chore — then it’s time to take action.

I started my career working for large established companies. Here, you don’t get to choose, whether you’re a trainee or a board director. From your line manager to your colleagues and even agency staff, you work with who you’re given.

Every large organisation has its share of douchebags. Like death and taxes, it’s inevitable. People that make you grind your teeth and think,

“HOW?!

How did you get there, and how are you still there?!”

Then I became MD of a startup, and could choose 80% of who I worked with — my team and the majority of suppliers and customers.

Then I became a solopreneur, and that figure rose to the high 90’s.

Bliss.

It’s hard to quantify the value of being able to walk away from (nearly) anyone who doesn’t deserve your time and energy.

What value do you put on being able to choose who you work with?
